3. Online Assessment to Support Meaningful Online Teaching and Learning
About this course
In this course the basic principles of student assessment and particularly online assessment are presented examining significant issues such as its aims and objectives, the types and the main characteristics of assessment as well as some of the most representative methods that could be used to assess students online. At the same time, the subsequent interface with online teaching and learning is examined thus facilitating the understanding of the process of teaching and learning as such.
Specific analysis is made of both Summative and Formative Assessment putting special emphasis on the reason why alternative assessment is constantly gaining ground in relation to traditional methods of assessing learning outcomes. Some of the benefits of student feedback on learning outcomes are also highlighted as teachers always have the ultimate goal of creating a positive classroom rapport. Hence, it becomes obvious that the role of the teacher is both important and essential throughout the process of the learning outcomes assessment as long as it is considered the epitome of teaching.
